Happy Saturday and a fit update...

Happy Saturday everyone!  I'm so happy that the weekend is here.  It's another busy weekend awaiting for us starting with home made lasagnas for dinner last night.  Today Chris' sister graduates from high school (YAY!!!) and the family is having a little get together to honor her.  Typically these get togethers are a huge potluck feast!  So, I've decided to make my lasagna. I also made a mini one for dinner for us last night.  Paired that with some wine and it was a great Friday night!  I've only made this lasagna once before but it was surprisingly good, so here it is again!
I first made the sauce with italian sausage, some left over salami I had in my fridge, onions, artichoke hearts, mama 'lil peppers, red peppers, canned tomatoes and regular spaghetti sauce in a bottle.  I added some fennel seeds, onion powder, white pepper, and some cayenne pepper for a little kick and let it simmer for an hour or so to marry all the flavors together.

Next came the building.  We got some pasta sheets at the bulk section of our market and I boiled the sheets el dente.  Then I just started layering pasta, sauce, ricotta and italian blended cheeses, basil...and repeat until I got to the top of the pyrex pan.

After layering, I popped it into the oven at 375 degrees for about 30 - 45 minutes with covered foil and voila!  This picture is actually our mini lasagna we had for dinner last night.  The larger one is in our fridge and will be baked today at the party.

I do have to give myself a pat on the back because this turned out AWESOME!  I think I ate a little bit too much last night but it was all worth it!  For those of you that are intimidated by the kitchen, I encourage you to just get in there and just try things out.  I didn't have a recipe for this lasagna and just winged it.  Normally I don't follow recipes and learn by trial and error.  How would you know what's good or not without trying right?  :)
So I wanted to update everyone on my two-wheeler dress.  I'm not putting up pictures yet because I want to debut it as an OOTD so please be patient with me.  But I did want to update everyone on how it went when I tried on both the sizes I ordered.  I ordered sizes 4 and 6 after reading reviews online that it ran big.  It was odd and I must have a huge rib cage because the size 6 fit perfectly!  Although I don't own a lot of dresses from Anthro, I thought my typical size would be a 6 (I have the beda in a 6 and the Horizon in an 8 which is a little big so the 6 would fit).  I tried on the 4 and I can fit into it but one of the buttons pulled a little.  Besides, I like clothes a little looser on me.  Anyhoo, besides that...let me just say I loved the dress!!!  It was everything I thought it would be and more!  I mean...can I put enough !!!s in this entry to show my excitement?!?!  I felt so cute, vintage, pretty in it.  I twirled around for Chris and made some contemporary dancing moves (clumsily because I am by no means a dancer!!!).  He agreed and said I looked cute.  I can not wait to wear this little dress.

The other day I also posted about a bicycle necklace that's currently available on Anthro's site.  But at a steep price of $98, there's no way I was going to buy it.  I would rather buy another dress!  Carol suggested that I look on Ebay or Etsy for cheaper versions and that's what I did.  And boy, was I surprised at how popular bicycle necklaces are.  I didn't even bother with Ebay and just looked on Etsy.  There were SO many cute options.  I finally found one I thought would work with the dress:

Isn't this just darling?  I loved the red little flower charm on it...it'd go great with the blue and white dress.  I also liked the vintage bronze feel.  Not to mention the delightful little big wheel bike which is on the dress as well.  At a mere $22.50, I was more than happy to pay for it.  It's currently in the ordering process and I want to be able to debut this with the dress.  So, a BIG THANK YOU to Carol for enlightening me.

  1. Sounds like we had the same issues with the Two-Wheeler Shirtdress. The 2 had one button that gaped/pulled when I sat down and I had to unbutton the sleeves for them to fit. The sleeves on the 4 fit fine, but it was a little bigger than I like everywhere else. I'm like you though and would rather have my dresses be a little bigger than too tight, so I think I'm keeping the 4 :)

I think I've seen that necklace on Etsy before! It's so cute! Can't wait to see how you style that two-wheeler, and thanks for the tip about the sizing. I think I'll stick with my usual size 4 :)

Hope you had a wonderful day with Chris' family.
