Burnt to a Crisp!

Hello all!  I'm back from my "fun" weekend down in the wonderful land of Los Angeles.  The only reason why fun was in quotes is because I'm so sun burnt right now and it's beginning to heal itself so I'm in a lot of pain from the itching and...well...burning itself.  I'm a little embarrassed to tell the story because I thought I was dumb for doing this, but this past Sunday, my girls and I wanted to rent beach cruisers from Santa Monica and ride it along the beach to Manhattan Beach. It's an 11 mile ride one way and it would have been fine if I was prepared and lathered on sunscreen before we left and reapplied appropriately.  However, I didn't!!  I don't know why I didn't think of this.  I used to live in LA so I knew how bad the heat was and I knew riding along the beach would not allow us any shade.  So needless to say, after a 22 mile round trip in the hot sun, my arms are now red as they can be.  I'm trying to hydrate myself with plenty of water but my skin needs to heal itself, which explains this painful itch I'm feeling.  Last night was horrible and I seriously wanted to cry my eyes out.  I read that aloe vera was soothing and cooling on sun burns, so I applied it all over my arms.  Boy, was that a mistake.  Within seconds the burning started and after a minute or so, the itch worsened 10 fold!  I wanted to just DIE!  Chris had to run out and get me some benadryl as a last resort.  I just hope this goes away soon!

Anyhow, other than me being an idiot this weekend, the rest of the weekend was awesome.  I really have to thank my matron-of-honor, Jean for heading up the planning on this whole trip.  Poor Jean is sunburnt as well so my heart pours out to her.  It was nice to spend some time with my girl friends from high school and we ate some great food at Fig in the Santa Monica Fairmont Hotel.  If anyone's there by chance, you have to try the restaurant out and order the spare rib and pancetta meatloaf.  :)  Also, I wanted to give a shout out to all my girls (Marla, Wai, Malena, Shenna) that came out this weekend.  THANK YOU GIRLS!!!

The first day we arrive in Santa Monica, we were able to shop around a little and I hunted down the Acting Out Skirt in my size!!!!  I have been stalking this skirt ever since it went on sale and could not find it in my size anywhere in the Seattle area.  I literally hopped up and down when I saw it at the 3rd St. Promenade store and I tried it on and it fit.  Well, it was a size 8 but with Anthro skirts, the hip typically hug too tight so the 8 actually fit perfect at the hip but a little loose at the waist.  I can belt it or alter it just fine though.

So, here's my boring OOTD today.  It's nothing special since I had absolutely no desire to get dressed, come to work, and look cute the whole day.  I had to wear this long sleeved sweater to cover up my arms but the material of the wool is making it itch even more.

Sweater: J. Crew (circa 2007)
Slacks: Banana Republic
Shoes: Seychelles
Necklace: Macy's
I will definitely post up some pictures of the past weekend when I get them from my friend after she gets back from LA.  But I leave you with a beautiful shot of Manhattan Beach after our bike ride.  At this time, I was just beginning to get red.  :)

  2. Yay! You found the skirt! I can't wait to see how you style it. I'm a clumsy work dresser and you definitely have it together. I'm trying to come up with polished ways to wear it at the office without looking over anthrofied.

Ohhh! Poor thing...sun burns are the worst!! Hope you had fun otherwise. Sounds like it was a super fun trip!

  3. @Cat - I've always worked in business casual environments and right now my work's pretty lenient about what I can wear. I'm sick of the gray on black and black on black outfits I used to wear. I'm not sure how open you are with slacks but I find that when it comes to work appropriate, it's definitely safe to go with a solid simple bottom (like slacks or a pencil skirt) and play it up with your tops. I've done OOTDs where I've worn dresses and felt over dressed or too "playful" but I still do it because when and where else would I wear this stuff otherwise? :) I can't wait to see you and your work OOTDs!

  8. LC - I had absolutely NO luck tracking any of the acting out skirts in my size in Seattle. But my friend said she saw one at the downtown store. That was a couple of weeks ago though and I doubt it's there any more. Usually the Bravern store is well stocked with everything and they had none! I hope you find it though and maybe Ebay is a last resort! Keep me updated.
