Volunteer Park Shoot...

You know that feeling?  Like when something is moving so fast...it's like a freight train is coming straight at you?  This is how I feel right now...but I'm loving it!  It wasn't long ago that I've decided to commit to further polishing my photography skills and I was dead serious to practice until my eyeballs fell out of their sockets.  However, I would have never expected Chris to tell me one day after work that a coworker of his asked us to photograph her wedding.  As soon as he told me, two things ran across my mind in a millisecond:

1. HOLY CRAP...I need more lenses, I need to practice more, I need to learn my new (used) Canon 20D, we have no flash, we need extra batteries, and I need to practice more...and I need to practice...and did I mention practice?
2. (At this point I closed my eyes then took a deep breath.) BRING IT!

I was scared out of my mind but so excited at the same time.  I've never felt this excited before.  It's something I can't really explain in words and the best way I can describe it is at that moment I wanted to pee my pants.

But boy, I was never prepared to hear what Chris had to tell me next.  After he noticed I had calmed down a bit, he casually mentioned, "Oh...and the wedding is next weekend."

I was beyond hysterical at this point and might have blacked out.  But when I came to, Chris and I divulged a plan to make sure this was going to be one of the most exciting experiences ever.

SaraLeigh and Ryan are tying the knot Saturday, January 15th at the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park.  I will be dedicating a special entry to the newly weds when their wedding pictures are ready to blog.  In the meantime, Chris and I had only today to visit the wedding site so we can acclimate ourselves to the environment and below are some of the pictures we took.

This first set was taken by Chris:
I sure look professional with my camera, don't I?  HAHA!!!  I try...I try!

Chris actually over exposed this picture because the light shining off of the sky behind me was brighter than he expected.  But I was able to fix this a bit.  It was a typical gray day in Seattle, so it's very hard to see any depth in the sky.

What was I taking here?  I wasn't sure but hopefully it turned out good?

This is a moving shot...where I was walking towards Chris as he was shooting me.  See the air through my hair?  Romantic eh?  The focus was a little bit off though as my face came out a little blurry.  Something to work on.  :)

Ahh...this would be a great shot if I didn't cover my face with the camera!

And below are some from the set I shot:
There's nothing sexier than a guy with a camera and a pink/brown bag!

He looks mighty professional there too right?

I loved this shot and if I had a bride and groom, it would have just been perfect.

I just love the little Space Needle in the background.  We hope to do a kissing bride and groom shot here.

FIERCE!

FIERCER!

Again, another shot where I wished I had a subject.

Did I say FIERCE?

I was trying to be all artsy behind this small tree shooting behind these branches.  But eh...it was worth a shot.  Chris was turned too much to his right and my branches didn't show much.

Well there you go!  It was a great day of practice shooting for us so it doesn't need to be said how excited we are for next weekend.  We'll continue to practice practice practice in the upcoming week so stay tuned for some more photos.  I realize this entry is a long one, but hopefully you've enjoyed the pics we took.  Thank you for stopping by!

  2. Hey great shots Cindi! I think my fave is the one of Chris behind the sculpture with the space needle in the background. It almost looks like a painting. The ones of you are lovely as well and you look so happy behing the lens as you do in front of it.
I'm sure you will do a brilliant job taking photographs at Chris' coworker's wedding - so don't panic too much!

  5. Robin - Thank you...you read my mind. The hubs and I are doing free shoots to try to start up a portfolio. That's why we've agreed to do this wedding. :)

Jen - Aww thank you! I'll try not to panic but sometimes it's a good thing. I heard the best photographers still get nervous before every wedding even after years of experience. But it's a good panic!

Dea - I always admired those pro photographers that check out wedding venues before their clients' wedding to get ideas for the shoot instead of just winging it on that day. I am sure SaraLeigh and Ryan will appreciate it.

Bonnie - Aww thank you! I never thought the space needle shot would turn out so well on the computer. It didn't look so hot on the camera. haha.

  7. How scary, yet exciting! I love that you two are working together - it's so adorable!!! My favorites are the one you took (8th down), and the first one Chris took of you. Both are crisp, clean photos that really capture the moment and don't seem overly posed. Can't wait to see more! I'm really enjoying to get to know more about you and your interests beyond the clothes and the pretty face :)

  10. So glad you guys are enjoying your new camera. And how exciting that you have a project coming up that will encourage you to keep practicing to develop your photography skills. I can't wait to see even more great shots like these. I can't wait for the spring so that the days are longer and I can really take advantage of the Bf's new camera.
