Sneakpeak: Sara Leigh + Ryan Wedding

Sara Leigh + Ryan's story involves an African safari, Montana State Parks, the Airforce, Alaska, and miles and miles of flying to see one another.  Their wedding day was ten years in the making, but to make a long story short, in the words of Flight of the Concords (the band playing in the background to calm Ryan's nerves as he was getting ready): "Looking at the room, I can tell that you are the most beautiful girl in the...room.  (In the whole room)."

Sara Leigh was definitely beautiful and that beauty was reflected in her wedding.  Conventional it was not.  From her classy black dress to the Seattle Asian Art Museum ceremony.  But intimate it sure was.  Sara Leigh + Ryan's closest family and friends, most of them traveled miles to Seattle, shared a fun and joyful day, I'm certain, will be unforgettable in everyone's memories.  Sara Leigh's two brothers could not make it, but both sent a special messages to her and we hope the pictures we've taken will help them feel like they were there.

Although the Bride, Groom, and various family members continued to thank Chris and I throughout the night for being there to photograph the day, we could not thank Sara Leigh + Ryan more for the opportunity to allow us to share in one of the most important days of their lives.  I used to work with Sara Leigh, but I never had the opportunity to get to know her until last night.  And I'm so glad I did.  She has this innate ability to be calm at every crazy thing that's thrown at her.  On a day when the Bride is usually the stressed one, the roles were reversed here and she amazingly was there to calm her Groom down whenever he needed it.

Thank you again, guys!  Chris and I are so happy for you.  Have a wonderful time in Hawaii.  Mahalo!

  1. These are awesome shots. What is the trick to get a shot that has a heavenly light background but the person still clear? I find that sometimes in natural light, if aperture is tuned to 1.8, the whole thing went washout, too much light. My shutter speed just max out. My other problem with some shots is the tone. How to get that warm tone? My picture often came out with a blueish tone and the face look like vegetables :(

  2. Inkmark - By washed out do you mean the whole picture went white? Or it's blurry? What camera do you use? I find that the hardest thing is to get the aperture and shutter speed just right. For most of these pics, we used either the 50mm 1.8 or 85mm 1.8 and almost all times, we shot wide open (other than if we're shooting more than two people for a portrait). If your picture went all white, that might mean you've set your ISO too high if your shutter speed is maxed out. Let me know what settings you're at with the pictures you're talking about and maybe I can give more specific settings to you.

The tone of the picture has everything to do with your natural light that you use and post editing. Haha. I wish I knew a camera trick that'll allow me to get that same tone, but I don't. We try very hard to not overprocess the pictures but I am a believer that good pictures (something someone is willing to pay for) needs additional paying attention to. I hope that helps! :)

  5. Brilliant job capturing the emotion and those all-important stolen moments. I'm very impressed Cindi! I love this style of photography in weddings, where everything looks natural and not too posed.
And I've noticed you and Chris have a "logo"! Yay - it looks good. I also had a sticky beak at your hubby's blog and saw this picture of your cat which I thought was cute: http://jocson.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/img_4600.jpg?w=300&h=199
You two make quite a talented team!

Courtnee - I know right? She's def not your typical bride but that's what I loved so much about her. They are truly a great couple.

Jen - I love this artsy type of photojournalistic style as well. I can't wait to see where our skills take us. I know we have lots to improve on though! So you see our branding? Hehehe...hopefully we'll use it for real some time soon!

  9. Thanks 4 sharing these gorgeous pics. You and Chris have MAD talent.
My hubby's got a Canon 7D and the lens is a Canon 17-55 f 2.8 and he says he's getting another bokeh-licious Sigma 50mm f 1.4. He's been going to this site for tutorial advice.

  13. Dea - Aww well let me just say congrats! Haha. I didn't even know I had this type of passion until I actually picked up the camera and tried things out. So I've only done this for about three weeks but my love for it is growing.

Life with Kaishon - Awww...I'm so glad I was able to get a fan of Jasmine's to come over to my site and actually like the photos! :) You don't know what your compliments did for me.

Lisa - Ooh the Canon 7D is a great gift! That's what Chris uses to shoot. We want to eventually get the 5D Mark II but for now, the two Canons we have is enough. I don't typically go on Youtube for tutorials for camera use...just for editing tips. I like to go on forums and blogs instead. Jasmine Star's blog is a great way to get tips. She has a category called "FAQ" which points out a lot of tips she uses. And also Open Source Photo has a forum which was really helpful for me. I can stay on that forum for hours! Hope this helps. And yes...a 50mm 1.4 would be buttery delicious for bokeh! We're also trying to get a f1.4 as right now we use an f1.8 and we want to upgrade!

Liz - Thank you so much! We were indeed going for the natural aspect.

Jamie - We still need a lot more practice of course but for our first wedding ever, we thought we did a great job as well. I'm very proud of our team! :) Thank you!
