Tidbit Tuesday: Boring at First Sight

"OMG, this guy is sooooo boring!!!"

YAWWWWNNNNNN!!!!

Those that know me can attest that I'm a pretty social person.  And those that's met Chris for the first time, probably won't think the same.  Chris is a shy soul, and while it takes me minutes to warm up to someone, it might take him several meetings for him to feel comfortable enough to bring out his true self.  And when we met for the first time at a co-worker's happy hour, the words above were what ran through my head whenever I tried making conversation with him.

Cindi: "So you're from Seattle?"
Chris: "Yeahhhh"

BORING!!!!!

I don't usually give up on people easily so I try again.

Cindi:  "So what client are you working at now?"
Chris: "Boeing...."
Cindi: "Oh I was at Boeing for a year last year!  It was interesting to say the least."
Chris: "Yeah....I know."

I didn't really give up until I overheard Chris and another coworker talk from across the table about how this one client of theirs looked like Jessica Alba.  At this point, I've rolled my eyes probably five times, and have written Chris off as anyone I'd be remotely interested in getting to know as a friend.  I try to ignore that side of the table for the remainder of happy hour, and at the end of the night, I said my goodbyes to everyone, including Chris, and I was off to start my weekend.

The following Monday morning as soon as I got in to work, I received an instant work message from Chris.  At first I didn't know who this person was, but I soon remembered...yes...the boring guy!  We started to casually chat over messenger and to my surprise, he was so funny and articulate in his writing!  He'd literally made me LOL at work and every day since then.  I often feel like an idiot sitting in my cube or office while giggling like a high schooler to myself.

There was a problem though.  When I met Chris, I had already made the decision to leave Seattle and tansfer offices to LA for work.  We spent the remaining three weeks I had left in Seattle hanging out almost everyday...sometimes until 3 am in the morning and both of us had to work the next day.  I never would have guessed this person was the same boring guy I met just weeks ago.  When I finally made the move to LA, it was a bit sad to say the least, but Chris continued to call and message me every night.  Our relationship developed quickly, despite the distance and seven months later, I was packing my LA apartment, returning home to Chris!  We drove an U-Haul through Napa Valley for some wine and somewhere on the 101 Highway, we started the rest of our life (singular) together.

  11. What a cute story! I had a similar situation when I met my significant other. The first night we met, I thought, "he might be fun to hang out with occasionally, but that's about it". Now, almost 8 years later we are planning our wedding:)

Can't wait to hear more tidbits:)

  14. Oh too funny! And I can actually relate, I never thought my dh was boring, but most people who know him think he is intimidating and uptight. Isn't it funny how beneath that initial exterior is a warm, funny teddy bear! I loved reading your sweet story and I'm so glad things worked out for the Happily Ever After! You two are so cute!

  15. such a cute story. And romantic is that you packed up and he helped you move back to Seattle to be with him. Love it.

  16. Lisa - I saw that you were having a giveaway! I'll check it out!

Jan - Haha intimidating and uptight? I know right? They can be so misunderstood. Sometimes Chris comes off as "disinterested" like he could care less to talk to you. But it's not like that at all! He just likes to listen when he fist meets you.

Pamela - Hehe we wanted to make a trip out of it. What was amazing was he wouldn't let me drive!!! He drove from LA to Seattle all on his own. Oy!

  17. hahaha, too funny and totally reminds me of Hubs and my own story. Lots of similarities to say the least! Were you both working at the same company when you guys met? Public accounting? Just curious because that's what my husband and I did!

  18. Mrs. LifeAccounts - Yes, we did work in public accounting. PwC to be exact. I left to join our LA office and hated it there. It was just too big and well, you k now how that is. I'm now in industry but Chris is still at PwC in the Seattle office. He won't be leaving for awhile as his coworkers love him and I love hanging out with them. Which firm did you and your husband work at?
