Everywhere you go, you hear about organics this, organics that. It can get overwhelming because the word "organic" can mean anything. I'm no expert when it comes to healthy eating, but I know that not everything labeled organic...is truly...well...organic. While it's best to put naturally grown vegetables and meats inside my body, it's just not economically feasible to do so. And I know some may argue that as long as you value it, eating healthy can be doable on any salary. Don't get me wrong, healthy living is one of many priorities in our current life. We choose our organic products carefully and sometimes one trip to Whole Foods amounts to over $100 with barely a basket full of produce.
That's why when my friend Marla told me about Full Circle, I was immediately intrigued.
Full Circle here in Washington was started by a couple who had a passion for providing locals with good, organically grown food. They've since grown and partnered with other local farmers, but the best thing about them is that they deliver produce right to your doorstep!!! You can opt to sign up for a standard or family sized box to be delivered every other week. Chris and I opted for the standard box because Marla said the amount of veggies in the box should last a good week or two for two adults. You receive an email from them the week when they are due to deliver with a menu of items included in your shipment. You can then go online and customize if you want to select more of one item vs. another. You can also skip shipments or cancel all together without any penalty. That's not all, rumors have it that deliveries arrive prior to 6 am on Thursdays...before you go to work. So before you leave, you can put your shipment right in the fridge.
So...what's the best part about this? The price of course! Each shipment costs only $35...shipping included. I don't know about you but I think a box full of organic, locally grown veggies for $35 is a steal of a deal! I'm excited to try the different veggies I'll get. It'll force me to be more creative with my cooking, that's for sure. My first shipment comes next Thursday and I will definitely be posting about it!

Oooh, I'm so jealous! What a great service! We have local vegetable co-ops out here, but it's a crap shoot as to what you'll get. My coworker does it and she's always mentioning random veggies that I'm pretty sure I'd never get around to cooking. I love the idea that yours sort of lets you customize what you want, from the selection they're providing. Tell us how it goes!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is an amazing deal!!! Yes, please do tell us how it goes!! I think that's a great way to try new veggies. I myself am trying to incorporate more kale, rutabagas, and chayote squash in my diet...it's fun trying to find recipes online! :-)
ReplyDeleteHooray! We do full circle too! It works the best for us since we can actively go on and customize the box. Plus, I like shopping their grocer section for other fun tasties like local jams and pickles sometimes. I've found that the produce that is grown on their own farms are often some of the most amazing.

Ha, yes, farm fresh produce are the best. You should read Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma. We can't do CSAs because Steve is a really picky eater, and even though there is a Whole Foods across the street, we would rather wake up early and trek down the farmer's market. Living where we do, we are very fortunate and lucky to have some of th best produce. Plus, nothing beats pasture-raised when it comes to meats and eggs.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I've been wanting to join a CSA, but need to wait until I cook more to justify the membership. You'll have to keep us updated on what sort of veggies you receive. One of my college professors told me that she received pounds and pounds of kale for months straight. Apparently it's delicious when roasted : )
ReplyDeleteI've heard about this and wished they had it in my city. But I do go to the farmer's market and I believe that you only have one body, so why not feed it the best food? Have you read Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals? I heard it will turn anyone into a vegetarian. Oh and if you have Netflix, watch FoodMatters. It's less than an hour long but VERY informative.
ReplyDeleteNice! I have done the same thing in the past with a company here in Portland called Organics To You. It was really wonderful! The produce was declicious (I'm all about local food) and it was super convenient. I loved coming home to a box of lovely fruits/vegtables on my porch. I would definitely argue that eating healthy, organic, local, real food can be done on a budget - you just have to find a way to make it work for you (with tools like Full Circle). Can't wait to hear about your first delivery!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I have been trying to cook more and have homemade meals in freezer for those busy nights. We just moved to the area and DH and I were just talking about how good produce was pretty pricey. While I've already developed a 'foodie crush' on Metropolitan Market... I need to reign in our grocery bill so I have some of those pennies left for Anthro pretties :o) Looking forward to your review/update!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this...please post pics of what you get! That would save me a lot of trips to the market.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear how it goes! do you know if they ship to sammamish?! i'll have to look that up since i've been trying to eat more veggies... if only they also included fruits!
ReplyDeleteAli - If you go on their site, you can enter your zip code and see if they deliver to your house. I'm pretty sure they do! And yes, it does come with fruits as well! I forgot to mention that but you can also pick and choose.
