A Special PanCan Post

Hi everyone!  I just wanted to thank every one of you that's left wonderful comments and have submitted your purple outfits.  If you still haven't and would like to send me your purple inspired outfits, please send them over to cindiwang (at) gmail (dot) com.  I'm taking pics until tomorrow! :)

As many of you know, my father-in-law, Claro, passed away from cancer of the pancreas last May.  Unfortunately, he missed out on our wedding, his second son's college graduation, and his daughter's high school graduation.  However, through all of these life changing events, all of us felt his presence with us on our special days.  This past Sunday for the PanCan walk, the forecast called for rain.  We were all set to brave it, and our family friend even brought ponchos.  However, the weather turned out to be gorgeous!  It wasn't even cold...and the sun was beaming!  We believe this is Claro and all the other angels up in heaven bringing us sunshine for our walk.

Prior to last May, I've hardly ever heard of the word "pancreas".  I didn't know what it did and where it was located in our bodies.  Through some research, I found out that the pancreas sit underneath the stomach, which makes it very hard to operate on.  The pancreas helps break down proteins, carbs and fats and produces insulin to help regulate your blood sugar.  Because Claro had diabetes, his pancreas was not functioning normally, making it susceptable to disease.

Claro first complained of back pain in December, for which doctors prescribed pain medication.  This dull pain continued to early April and during a regular check up with his regular doctor, they discovered a mass in his liver.  Upon further tests, they discovered that the origin of the disease came from the pancreas and he was officially diagnosed with cancer in late April.  At this point, the cancer has spread to 90% of his liver.

Three weeks after his diagnosis, Claro passed away peacefully in a hospital bed with all his family by his side.  I took the ferry and rushed over to the hospital immediately after work, without having a chance to say my goodbyes.  To this day, Chris and I are thankful that the doctors told us he probably felt minimal pain and was quite comfortable during his stay at the hospital.

This cancer takes 95% of the lives diagnosed because it is typically painless.  By the time you feel some type of discomfort, it's already spread away from the pancreas.  Below are the symptoms:

--Pain in the upper abdomen
--Loss of appetite
--Jaundice (yellowing of the skin, eyes...urine)
--Blood clots
--Depression
--Diabetes

These symptoms aren't extremely specific, but if you and especially your loved ones, suspect something is deeply wrong, I urge you to push your doctor to perform further testing.  Research as much as you can with the vast of information online, books, and other sources.  I've heard that we're our own advocates when it comes to our health, and good doctors are lifesavers, but diagnosing a deathly disease sometimes takes trial and error, which can take a long time  If you feel something is not right with you, you have the right to push for more tests or go see a second physician.

I mentioned that Claro had one kidney...and it was donated by his wife, Linda.  Their story is so wonderful, and their love is inspirational for Chris and I.  Chris has mentioned before that because of them, he has a solid view of what a marriage and love should be.  Growing up, seeing how great his parents' relationship was, helped form his own foundation for which to build a solid family.
This picture was taken at the Seattle airport in the 70's...when Claro was picking Linda up.  Linda and Claro met in the Phillipines and Claro settled in Seattle, Linda in Arkansas.  They got married in a courthouse in Arkansas and Linda stayed there to finish up her nursing contract.  A year later, here, Claro picks her up from the airport and they started their life as a married couple.  Today Linda wears Claro's wedding ring, along with her ring, on her wedding finger.  The had matching wedding bands!

Thank you for reading this long, but very important post.

I heart Gossamers...

Hello everyone.  I know I haven't done fitting room reviews in a while so I have some of them for you today.  I was able to walk (in the rain) to Anthro to try some things on.  It felt so good to get out of the office...it doesn't happen much anymore since Chris and I carpool and he drops me off in the mornings.  But the Anthro is just a ten minute walk away...so today I put on my walkin' shoes and off I went.

Gossamer Henley - $49.95

I saw this top on a really cute girl this past summer I believe at the downtown store.  When I saw the price, I was so shocked to see that it's almost $100 for a piece of thin fabric.  But it hung so well on this girl that I had to keep an eye on it in case it went on sale.  When I saw this in my size, I had to get it.  So I got the striped and the purple color way.  The fabric is a little sheer but I'm ok with this since it's so comfortable on.  I love the idea of wearing this with tights and if I wanted to, without a cardigan with it.

I think I've tried the Alice coat in every single color available.  I even bought the purple color way a while back but returned it for the clinton trench.  Girls, have you ever loved something so much, in theory, but once it's on you, it's just underwhelming?  But you keep going back to it, hoping that it'll fit differently the next time you try it on?  I wanted to love every color of this sweater, and I do...but it's the fit once it's on me, I believe, is the issue.  It just didn't flatter me as much as I'd like and the fabric itself is a little thin, that whatever I'm wearing underneath, can easily add bulk to the coat.  Alice, you are a hard to catch chick.  But you're not for me...and I've come to terms with that!

That's it for now.  But before I leave, I have good news.  Chris and I are meeting with our wedding photographer tomorrow night for dinner.  He's finally done with our wedding pictures and we'll pick up the DVD tomorrow.  I am SO excited.  I will definitely be sharing more pics with everyone as soon as I get them!

Have a lovely night!

A Halloween and Weekend Catch Up...

Happy Monday night everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend because mine was great!  The PanCan walk was perfect and I will have pictures for you soon.  For those of you that already submitted your Purple for PanCan outfits...THANK YOU so much!  For those of you that still want to submit a purple incorporated OOTD, please email them to cindiwang(at)gmail(dot)com.  Please see my original post about this here and submit your outfits by Friday!

I know I still owe you some Halloween party pictures...so here they are!

Marla and Mark came as a Seahawk player and Ref.  A funny story...Mark decided to open the door and jump infront of some kids trick or treating.  And one five year old yelled what we believe to be SEAHAWKER!!!!!!!!!  But all of us heard "mother...cker".  It was hilarious!!!  We were so confused for a second there but we still think he said Seahawker...we think.  Haha.

Jean and Jun came as Waldo and a ladybug.  Waldo's outfit was home made!  The red stripes were actually red duct tape!  Way to go, Jun!

Wai and Tats came as police woman and prisoner of course.  Wai is barely 5 feet tall and this dress was made for someone average height...probably my height at 5'5".  Can you imagine how short it'd be on me???

Here are my husband and his sister and brother.  Jill came as Snooki, Justin as Mr. T and my hubby...well...as my rival gang member.  I loved how Snooki brought her own fuzzy slippies.  :)

Here's me and the hubby.  :)  I realized that night that I was the only non-cute girl there!  I felt rather boyish actually.

Group Shot!!!

It was a great night for sure!  We must have gotten over 40 trick or treater groups...meaning that our doorbell probably rang over 40 times.  When it got dark, we watched Saw 5!

Onto an outfit I wore this past weekend to my friend Marla's (the referee above) surprise birthday party put together by her loving husband, Mark.

I finally was able to track down the switching lanes cardi after trying it on two separate times.  I only found it in a Large though, which is a teeny bit big, but not enough to notice.  I also love the fact that on the weekends, I can get away with wearing jeggings all the time.  These Hue jeggings I bought last year, but I had totally forgotten I had them until recently.  I own a pair in the blue colorway as well.  I swear by these on the weekends.

Oh and I also was able to try out taking my OOTD with the new camera remote.  I'm still mastering my poses and positioning of the camera.  So...please bear with me and excuse Chewy's booty pic.  :)

Cardigan - Switching Lanes Anthropologie
Tee - Anthropologie
Pants - Hue Jeggings from Nordstrom
Boots - Aerosoles from DSW

Home stuff...and a "Purple" request...

Hello all!  Yesterday our rug we ordered online arrived and we were able to get it in place to test it out.  We have a HUGE great room, so even the 8X11 sized rug felt small in our space.

Currently we placed our couch on top of the rug.  I think we'll need to pull the rug forward and place the couch back on the hardwood floors.  The only problem is since we have felt pads on the feet of the couch, it tends to slide around.  We just bought non-slip pads which I think will help with the problem.  But as for the rug, I just love it!!!  It's such a wonderful design and the color is just right.  I'm so glad we purchased it for our space.

We also decided to buy this little bench for the space right below where we hung our guest book.  It's right next to our fireplace before you reach the formal dining room.  It'll be a great perch place for our cat and when we have guests over, we can slide this right next to our couch.  This seats two people comfortably.

Today is my late father-in-law's birthday.  He passed away from pancreatic cancer last May and November is also pancreatic cancer awareness month.  This weekend Chris' family and I are participating in a PanCan walk to support the ongoing research to cure this horrific disease.

Also, to honor my father-in-law, I wanted to post a special "Help Cure PanCan with Purple!" post.  I plan on doing this post some time next week, so please email me your outfits incorporating the color purple in your OOTD.  I believe some day, we'll finally be able to say we've cured cancer.  But until then, we can still hope on to that hope.  I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Some Non-Golfing and Tried Non-Shopping...

Hello everyone!  Today was a pretty busy day for me.  I had to participate in an inventory at one of our golf courses, so I had to arrive on site at 5:30 in the morning!!!  Believe me, I'm not a morning person, so getting up at 4 am was a chore!  This was my first time going to our Echo Falls Golf Club and it was just beautiful.  I was able to take a couple of pictures of the course.

The inventory was a success.  However, I failed at trying to be good about the Anthro sale.  I proudly commented on several of your blogs earlier today saying how I did not buy a thing.  But then my willpower weakened at around mid-afternoon at my office.  It was probably my attempt to stay awake from waking up so early this morning, but my mouse had a mind of its own and clicked straight to Anthro's sale page.  There I saw these:

I've been looking for the Switching Lane's cardigan for awhile now and with it being 19.99, I just couldn't resist.  :)

From the looks of it, lots of you scored big today.  Congrats on that!

Halloween Weekend!

From the looks of everyone's blogs, it looks like everyone had a wonderful Halloween weekend!  We had a get together with friends and tons of trick or treaters!  Our sub division is filled with young parents with kids...and we're one of the odd couples out with no children yet.  But that didn't stop us from enjoying what the other kids wore.  I will share photos with friends on a later post but today I wanted to share with you some of my coworker outfits.

Last Friday we had a company Halloween potluck.  There were tons of food and almost everyone in our office dressed up for the event!

Vicky is our company President's Mom!  She is 73 and works here part time with book keeping.  She's known for making her awesome costumes and this year she came as the Raggidy Granny!  It was hilarious!

Tammye is one of the accounts payable people I work with.  She wasn't going to dress up but I think the fact that everyone was so hyped about dressing up encourage her to do so as well.

And here I am.  Yep...that's me!  It's really scary isn't it?

The final group picture.  This is basically our whole office...so as you can see, we have a small number of us.  It was a really fun time and great to see coworkers out of their normal business casual.

That's it for now...just a short post today.  I'll be back with more Halloween fun in a bit!

Wuz up!

Today I look like this:

So no real outfit posts.  :)  I will be back earlier next week to show you guys some fun Halloween costumes.

This weekend we're planning to go watch Saw 3D!  We've seen all the Saw movies and of course we just had to go see the very last one in the series.  3D though...I'm a little scared for it.  But as you can see from my picture, I'm gangsta!  Tough!  Naw...I ain't scared!

Tootes!!!
