I also wanted to thank everyone's kind words on the Cartier ordeal I'm going through. Chris has called the New York Cartier and they gave him the same schpill. At this point, I'm just going to wait it out until the wedding is over to fix the crack. I haven't worn it the whole weekend and will be wearing it less weeks leading up to the wedding. It's the hardest thing to do, I tell ya. And Aimee, I will send you some pictures of the cracks as well as the ring when I find my card reader for my Canon 7D. Thanks for offering your expertise, and once you tell me more info, I can go in with more confidence! =)
So this past Saturday, I went to pick up my wedding dress with my mom. I have to tell ya, I was pretty nervous that day. Lots of thoughts went through my head:
--What if the dress is totally wrong?
--What if I don't like the dress anymore?
--What if the color's off?
--What if it's snagged somewhere?
And of course the dreaded question:
--What if it doesn't fit????
When I got to I Do Bridal, a boutique just near the University here, the sales people knew me right away. They asked if I was excited and I totally could not even utter a complete sentence. They sent me into this fitting room with the dress already hung and oh my, I completely lost my breath. She was beautiful! As beautiful as I remembered her to be. I picked the dress because of the material, it was a well made, thick silk and as I ran my fingers through it, I just wanted to melt.
Then came fitting time! My mom tried to help me get into it but I asked the sales person to help instead. The last thing I wanted to do was rip it! She put the dress over my head and as she was pulling it down, it felt like it wouldn't fit. I was horrified at that moment. The sales person continued to pull and twist it, and just as I was about to ask her what was wrong, she said, "OK! Done!" I totally didn't realize I was already WEARING it. They ordered my dress based on the largest area of my body, which is my ribcage! Ha! So as expected, the bust and the hip areas will need to be taken in. But while I posed up on that padestal for my mom, she was saying how beautiful I looked. I loved being in it! It was heavy, way heavier than I remembered, but I was SO happy to have picked this dress. I felt, for the first time, like a real bride. I think if the SA's were to put a veil on me, I would have bursted out in tears. They didn't though, because it was super busy and hectic and other girls were waiting for my dressing room.
I'm going to take it over to my tailor at the end of this month and that's where I'll probably shop for my veil. My tailor also owns a wedding dress shop. I'm so excited to wear the dress again! It's now hidden in one of our spare bedrooms and Chris is forbidden to go in there! I want to prance around in it while he's not home. Hehe...silly I know!
Anyhoo, I'm not feeling well today so I it was hard to look super cute. Here's just a simple OOTD. As expected, I was too lazy to do my hair so up it went! I hope everyone has a great Monday!
Cardigan - J. Crew
Tank - Halogen, Nordstrom
Skirt - Halogen, Nordstrom
Belt - Anthropologie
Shoes - Seychelle's
And here's what our deck looks like so far. We're about 70% done! Just need to do the arbor and the seating, lights, and stain! You can't see it that clearly in the pic, but my mom is sporting, yes...an OBEY shirt! Haha. I give her all my hand-me-downs and she proudly wears them. Love you, mommy!
Oh, Cindi, how happy for you! I'm so excited to see the dress! I can't wait 'til you post photos of it (I know, I know, I have to wait 'til after the wedding). Your deck looks great! And I'm intrigued by that skirt. Do you like it? How does it fit?
ReplyDeleteHey, Cindi, would you email me your mailing address? Kathryn and I have a little something we want to send you...
ReplyDeleteCarol - Thank you! I can't wait to post pictures either. I'm feeling so giddy as I think about it now. I like the skirt just fine but I always need to wear a belt with it. The elastic is a bit thin and looks "old lady" if I don't belt it. I got it for the color, the comfort and the price. It was a great deal on sale!
ReplyDeleteAww...I wonder what it could be!! :) I will email you my address in a few!
Cindi, I am so excited for you!! I am so looking forward to seeing pictures of your special day and your beautiful dress! :)
ReplyDeletePS - it's totally not silly to want to prance around in your dress when the boy isn't home!! :) I absolutely know the feeling well! (It's like that Friends episode when the 3 girls are sitting on the couch eating snacks and watching TV - I so want to do that, haha!)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your wedding dress! I love the navy with that skirt, so cute!
ReplyDeleteThe dress!!!How exciting:D
ReplyDeleteI read about your ring issues over the weekend. I hope everything works out but it kind of sucks that you have to wait until after the wedding to try to resolve things:(
ps-you look super cute! i love the color cobination:)
whoa, that's a nice big deck!! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the dress. How exciting!!!!! But the ring business sure is lousy. Like you want ONE EXTRA thing to worry about. Ugh.
I felt the exact same way- I spent nearly 7 months wondering if I made the right decision and second guessing myself. It was terrible, but like you, everything was just perfect when I finally saw it again! I had my second fitting last saturday and I need just one more and it's all done! I'm not feeling so well today either, hope it's not a summer bug :(
ReplyDeleteDespite not feeling well, you sure do look cute and put together!
Erin - I totally know which episode you're talking about! HAHA! I love Friends and if ever there was a Friends trivial game, I will take home the gold!
ReplyDeleteAshley - I love how you mix and match color so thanks for the inspiration. :)
Courtnee - Thank you! I am trying to stay positive about the whole ring thing. It'll get fixed no matter what, it's just a matter of time and cost. I have so many other things to worry about in the next month though, so I'm not letting this bring me down!
Pamela - Hehe the deck kept getting bigger as we built it. My dad first thought it'd be less than 300 sq ft, but now it's at 450! Eeeek.
Spiffy - I just read your post and you look so cute in your dress. It's cute that you got dressed just for the blog. :) That's more than what I'll ever do! Haha. Maybe I can do an OOTD in my PJs.
Congrats on the wedding dress! We all hope to see beautiful happy pics after the momentous event!
ReplyDeleteAnd love the deck. Is your dad free to come to the SE after he's done with yours to build me one? ;o)
Sorry to hear about the Cartier business. That sucks. But in the long stream of things leading to your big day, it's just a minor bump and can be resolved.
I seriously got the chills reading about your dress :) It must be so exciting having it in your posession and knowing that you'll be wearing it soon!
ReplyDeleteAlso, e-mail me whenever. I'd be more than happy to help you out with advice!
And, i love that deck! Can't wait to see the arbor. I've always wanted one myself - they're so pretty.
Lisa - Haha...my dad would actually love to help you build a deck. He's always trying to get my friends to ask him to build things. He wants to line up a bunch of projects before he even completes one. That man just can't rest.
ReplyDeleteAimee - Aww that's so cute you got chills. I really felt so pretty wearing it, a feeling that I haven't gotten before. I'm not quite sure how a bride is supposed to feel, but I'm certain it's gotta be different for everyone. For me, I just couldn't wait for Chris to see me in it!
Ah! What a wonderful post! I'm so excited to hear more about your experience and your dress. This is such a special time for you and your mom! Cute outfit! I might try a version of that outfit this week. I just got a papaya colored skirt :) Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great outfit, Cindi! The halogen brand offers such great items!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to head that your dress worked out. You must be so excited. Looking forward to seeing pictures of it!
Cat - Of course, when I read your comment, I couldn't wait to see your version of the outfit. You always put a little twist in your outfits that I can never think of. :)
ReplyDeleteJamie - Yes, I love Halogen! I think they have some very good basic items which I keep going back to and grabbing to wear.
I can't wait to see your dress! I'm so excited for you and your big day! :-)
